Spring Racing Hair and Makeup in Geelong

Spring Racing is one of the busiest times of year for hair and makeup bookings in Geelong. The team at Salon Eve, with over 15 years of experience in hair and makeup, offers one of the best value Spring Racing Glam packages in Geelong.
Barbara leads Salon Eve with over 20 years styling hair and Christina from Eyedo Beauty brings over 15 years as a makeup artist. It’s one of the team’s favourite times of year, and they love helping clients feel confident, glam and ready for race day.
Race day looks take real planning, from a fascinator that has to sit right, hair that needs to hold all day, and makeup that needs to last from the first race to the last drink. Here’s what’s included, what it costs, and how to book before this year’s spring racing appointments fill up.

Book Your Spring Racing Glam Package
What’s Included in the Spring Racing Glam Package?
Salon Eve’s $200 Glam package combines hair styling with a full face of makeup, done together in one appointment at the Geelong West salon. Hair can be styled up or worn out, and makeup includes lashes as standard.
The full Glam package takes about 2 hours. The hair side of the package is done by Barb or one of Salon Eve’s stylists, and it’s built around whatever you’re wearing on your head and the neckline of the dress you are wearing. That might mean a sleek low bun, a soft half up style, or hair styled out with movement, depending on your fascinator or hat.
Makeup is done by Christina at Eyedo Beauty, who works alongside Salon Eve as a long standing partner. False lashes are included as part of the standard makeup service, so there’s nothing extra to arrange.
This year, we’ve also partnered with Ariadne Beauty Studio to offer 30% off nail services, so you can get your hands race-day ready alongside your hair and makeup.
This isn’t the package for bridal or bridal party bookings, which are handled separately with their own pricing and process. If you’re planning a wedding, visit our Wedding Hair in Geelong page for everything you need to know.

What Hairstyles Are Popular for Spring Racing?
Minimal styling has been popular at Salon Eve in the lead up to Spring Racing. The team has been seeing a lot of low buns, soft messy buns and loose styles with a soft fringe left out at the front. It’s a shift away from the bigger, more built up updos of past seasons.
For clients who want something simple and polished, headbands are a good option. They work best with volume kept through the back of the head and a soft, minimal front, so the headband sits properly instead of fighting against too much texture.
None of this is about chasing a trend for the sake of it. It’s simply what keeps holding up best for Geelong clients spending a full day outdoors at the races.
A lot of clients also use the lead up to Spring Racing as a good reason to book a colour refresh. If your colour needs some love before race day, Salon Eve’s colour specialists can talk you through timing so it’s fresh without feeling rushed.
Others go bigger, using the Carnival as the reason to finally try balayage or freshen up an existing blonde before the season kicks off.

How Do I Style My Hair With a Fascinator?
Fascinator styling starts with the headpiece, not the hair. A large fascinator usually works best with a side swept or low style, while a headband needs volume kept through the back and a soft, minimal front. Bringing the fascinator, hat or headband to the appointment lets the stylist build the look directly around it.
Every fascinator sits a little differently, which is why bringing it along matters more than trying to describe it over the phone. Some perch at an angle over one eye, some sit further back, and some are wide enough that the hair needs to be kept low and out of the way entirely.
As a general rule, the bigger and busier the headpiece, the simpler the hair underneath should be. A statement fascinator paired with a lot of volume and texture can end up competing for attention, whereas a clean low bun or side swept style lets the fascinator do the work.

Should You Wear Your Hair Up or Down on Race Day?
Up styles are generally the safer choice for race day, fascinator or not. Down styles look beautiful and pair well with a fascinator, but they’re more exposed to wind, heat and rain across a full day outdoors. Extra prep and product can help hair hold if it’s worn down, though an up style tends to look good for longer.
This comes up in almost every Spring Racing consultation. Down hair looks soft and romantic in photos taken early in the day, but Geelong and Melbourne weather during Carnival season is unpredictable. Wind and humidity can flatten curls fast, and if it rains, hair worn down tends to lose its shape completely rather than just softening.
An up style holds its structure regardless of what the weather does. It also tends to survive a long day of standing, drinking and dancing better than a loose style, which can start to droop by the time the last race runs.
If you do want to wear it down, the team will use extra product and prep to help it last. It’s worth knowing going in that an up style is the more reliable option for the whole day.

How Far in Advance Should You Book Spring Racing Hair and Makeup in Geelong?
Salon Eve caters to the full spread of Carnival dates. Clients come in for the Caulfield Cup, the Cox Plate, Derby Day, Oaks Day and Stakes Day, as well as Geelong’s own Geelong Cup, which falls on a Wednesday and tends to book out early with locals. Book Spring Racing hair and makeup in Geelong by the end of September at the latest and earlier bookings make it easier to secure your availability.

Frequently Asked Questions About Spring Racing Hair and Makeup in Geelong
How much does Spring Racing hair and makeup cost in Geelong?
Spring Racing hair and makeup at Salon Eve costs $200 for the combined Glam package, which includes hair styling and a full face of makeup with lashes. Hair only or makeup only can be booked separately at standard salon pricing. Contact Salon Eve to confirm current pricing before booking.
Can I bring my fascinator or hat to my appointment?
Yes, and it’s encouraged. Bringing a fascinator, hat or headband to a Spring Racing appointment lets the Salon Eve team build the hairstyle directly around it, rather than guessing how the two will work together on the day.
Should I part my hair on the same side as my fascinator?
Not necessarily. It depends on the fascinator and the hair underneath it. Some looks work best with the part on the same side as the headpiece, others work better on the opposite side. This is worth discussing at the appointment, ideally with the fascinator in hand.
Can I book just hair, without makeup?
Yes. The Glam package combines hair and makeup, but hair styling can be booked on its own at standard salon pricing for clients who already have makeup sorted or prefer to do it themselves. See hair styling options under ‘Style & Go’ on our online booking.
What happens if it rains on race day?
Rain is one reason Salon Eve generally recommends wearing hair up for race day. Up styles hold their shape better than hair worn down, which can lose volume and curl quickly in wet or humid weather. Extra product can help either way, but an up style is the safer bet.
Which race days does Salon Eve cater for?
Salon Eve books Spring Racing appointments for every date on the Carnival calendar, including the Caulfield Cup, Geelong Cup, Cox Plate, Victoria Derby Day, Crown Oaks Day and TAB Champions Stakes Day. The salon is closed on Melbourne Cup Day itself but open for every other Carnival date.
How long does the Spring Racing Glam package take?
The Spring Racing Glam package takes around two hours in total. Hair styling generally takes 40 to 60 minutes, and makeup with lashes takes another 50 to 60 minutes. The two services are scheduled around whichever one needs to start first.
Should I bring reference photos to my appointment?
Yes, reference photos help. Bringing some photos of the hairstyle or makeup look wanted, along with the fascinator or hat, gives the Salon Eve team a clear starting point and helps avoid surprises on the day.
